BMW Logo

Some of the things that don't match a BMW are white ribbons or flowers on a wedding occasion.. I remember laughing inside myself when I saw one wearing such accessories.

It has that powerful, macho look that can't bear any attempt to make it a little bit milder. The wild hum of the engine expressed fascination for speed, the strongly built structure made you think of a safe journey in the dangerous world out there... hardly one would think of taking a bride in a slow procession to the church with it. But such contrasts are sometimes good for the true nature of things to be revealed.

So no, BMW doesn't stand for "Be My Wife" but are the initials for the "Bayerische Motoren Werke" (Bavarian Motor Works), an independent German company which presently manufactures automobiles and motorcycles. BMW is the parent company of the MINI and Rolls-Royce car brands as well.

The company was founded in 1916 in Munich, the capital city of Bavaria and originally it began by making aircraft engines. The logo, which is a round blue and white one alludes to the flag of Bavaria which is a checkered white and blue one. Later on, after it was already in use, the interpretation of the logo evolved, being said that it symbolized a spinning white propeller on a blue sky background.

Today, BMW is best known for its powerful, reliable cars and its roundel logo is the symbol of German high standards of quality and strenght. It is an invitation to experience flying at a different level.
